Really loved how they pulled off Maria in both games. In the original she always had this unsettling vibe, like something wearing your dead wife's skin. Here, she seems more manipulative emotionally.

Thanks for playing! Maria is actually one of my favorite characters. She literally was created because James wants a "hot" version of his wife who is obsessed with him. Tragic villain in my opinion.

Silent Hill 1-3 are a masterclass when it comes to it's storytelling, characterization, dealing with it's heavy themes and atmosphere.. Played the OGs as a kid and didn't understand much but played them again as an adult and man, this stuff hits differently. James is such a complex and divisive character and I can't possibly imagine what I would have done in a similar situation. Nerissa please do go dive into the many video essays on the SH series, it's a very deep pool to understand everything.

Regardless of the story's age being over 20 years old at this point, it NEVER gets old seeing a person's first time reaction to seeing the full extent of the plot points unraveling as they see their first ending to the game as their initial playthrough comes to a close. You know a game's story has held up incredibly well when it can manage to make new players even after countless years have so much deep thoughts racing through their minds as they attempt to analyze every last bit of detail they've soaked in from the plot. Such a fantastic game, genuinely one of the greatest horror games to ever release.

Fog lifts in silence, truth unburied, love and loss— shadows fade away. Congrats on finishing the game, with zero deaths no less! Gamer Rissa!

Maria was real. Because of the events of the first game, the otherworldly force that resided in the area became corrupted and started manifesting realities out of people's subconscious thoughts and emotions. Maria was created from James' subconscious to be a more provocative version of his wife in order for her to be killed again and again to exercise his guilt. I actually feel very bad for Maria because she was a real living person. Imagine coming to understand that the entire point of your existence was to be brutally killed again and again in order to satiate a mentally ill man's desire for punishment. And when all is said and done, the best you get is to be discarded.

This Remake was a MASTERPIECE. Its just pain all over again, but in HD. I'm glad Rissa loved the game!

I really enjoyed this playthrough! Especially Nerissa's reactions to the plot twists! They were so strong that I could feel like I'm experiencing the game for the first time myself. SH2 is a classic and I thought the remake did a great job preserving the story and atmosphere. If you ever get a chance, I recommend looking up the original performance for Maria/Mary. Monica Taylor Horgan stole the show in the OG, especially the Jail scene as well as Mary's Letter. I'm really happy you enjoyed it!

James is such a complicated character and the endings are so good. The endings don’t change what he did but they do change why he did it and how he felt afterwards.

Well, you've just experienced one of the best twists in the history of videogames. Still holds up for over 20 years, blows your mind now just like it did back then. A stone cold classic this game is for a good reason.

Please please please play SH1 and SH3 before they get remade, both games are gorgeous stories and gameplay experiences in their own rights and you will absolutely not regret it! Well, maybe a little bit for SH1, but for SH3 it's an unforgettable game that will definitely pull your heartstrings like 2, just in a different way. They are seriously excellent as they are, and very much worth playing before trying to watch the movie(s) as those are, uh... not exactly faithful to the games. But please give the originals a shot! SO happy that I decided to watch you play from start to end and hit that hard realisation at the end that James was... a troubled man. SH2 is a game from my childhood that's stayed with me for years and I shamefully admit that I have forgotten a lot of it, but re-experiencing it through this remake showed that they did their best to stay faithful to the source and kept the mood, the reveals, the pain very accurate. There's a lot of lore and fan theories going around, especially over the past 20 years, but you'll find your way through! Would love to see you play Mouthwashing or Signalis next!
